What is TrustKey?

Would your partner know how to unlock your phone to rescue family photos? Would your family know where your life insurance policy is, or how to access the joint bank account?

Today, our entire lives are locked behind passwords, PIN codes, and digital accounts. If something happened to you tomorrow, the last thing your loved ones need is chaos on top of grief.

TrustKey is your Digital Legacy Vault with a built-in "dead man's switch". Store what matters — written instructions, personal messages, your secret projects, scanned documents, family photos, videos, or any files you want preserved. Use it to leave guidance like "The phone PIN is 1234" or "The insurance policy is in the blue drawer", upload the documents themselves, record a final video message, or all of the above.

Although TrustKey uses strong end-to-end encryption and is built with security as its core, the standard industry recommendation for this type of service is to avoid storing highly critical credentials such as crypto private keys or banking passwords. Not because TrustKey isn't secure — it is — but because the golden rule of digital security is to never rely on a single service as the sole guardian of your most critical credentials. For everything else, TrustKey keeps it private, encrypted, and ready.

If you unexpectedly stop logging in, TrustKey automatically delivers everything to the people you trust — and only to them. No lawyers, no lost data, no extra pain for your family. Just clarity and peace of mind.

How does it work?

1. Set up your vault. Register, choose your plan, and add what you want to pass on — written instructions, personal messages, scanned documents, photos, videos, or any files up to your plan's storage limit. Designate your Safety Contacts: the only people who will receive it.

2. Stay active. Log in periodically to reset your countdown timer. That's all TrustKey needs to know you're still there.

3. If you go silent, TrustKey acts. When your timer expires, we send you reminder emails first. If there's still no response after several days, your Safety Contacts are gently notified to check on you. If you remain unreachable, the switch activates: your contacts receive a unique access key and can download everything you left for them. They have 30 days to do so.

Changed your mind? Log back in at any point — even after activation — and everything resets instantly. Your contacts lose access and your vault returns to normal.

How do we protect you?

Privacy is the foundation, not an afterthought. Your files and messages are encrypted on your device before they reach our servers. We store encrypted data — not readable content — and do not access the contents of your vault under normal operation. Additional protections included in every plan:

• Duress password. If you're ever forced to open your vault, enter your secondary password. Your contacts receive a silent alert while anyone watching sees nothing but an empty account.
• Secure password recovery. Recovery links are sent to your email and only become active after a 24-hour delay — an extra layer of protection against coercion. Requesting a recovery link requires your recovery code or the email of one of your Safety Contacts.

A few things worth knowing:

• TrustKey is a secure delivery channel, not a primary cloud backup. Keep your own copies of important files.
• Irrecoverable access loss: If you permanently lose access to both your registered email address and all your recovery methods (recovery code and Safety Contacts), your vault cannot be recovered by TrustKey or anyone else. This is a deliberate consequence of the end-to-end encryption architecture.
• Once activated, your Safety Contacts have 30 days to download their files. After that, all data is permanently deleted from our servers.
• TrustKey is not a legal will or testament. For formal succession planning, please consult a qualified professional in your country.
• TrustKey acts on your timer settings only. We do not verify identities, accept claims from family members or legal heirs, or intervene in any automated process — the switch runs exactly as you configured it.
